2007 Planeta Santa Cecilia. Nero d’Avola from Noto in the far south of Sicily. Ruby red in colour, the black fruits have matured well. Deep and full in the mouth, herbs, leather, some tobacco and a pleasant chocolate lingering on the long finish. Really enjoyed this wine.

Goutorbe-Bouillot Reflets de Rivière Brut, Champagne. Blend of 60% Meunière, 20%Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay from vines near the village of Damery. Very traditional , fruity and complex , yet still has good acidity and freshness. I can imagine it will develop some more with age. Very enjoyable wine. Used it to wash down it a turkey burger. #champagne #frenchwhitewine #goutorbe-bouillon #villageofdamery #refletsderiviere #nicholaspearce #growerschampagne #nonvintagechampagne #champagneanytime — 6 years ago
This Greco from Campania, is believed to have originated in Greece and brought to southern Italy along with a number of other Greek grape varieties when the Greeks dominated that part of Italy. Very mineral, with stone fruit and citrus. Balanced acidity give this wine a lovely refreshing and juicy finish. Great with seafood.

Planeta 2007 Santa Cecilia from 100% Nero d’Avola. 2nd bottle for me and every bit as good as the first. Deep red in the glass. Dark berry fruit, herbs, leather, tobacco and cocoa on the long finish. Great example of the Sicilian variety, Nero d’Avola. I think this has the structure to last another 5-7 years. Gotta find some more of this...#planeta #sicilianwine #noto #nerodavola #santacecilia #italianredwine #2007sicilianvintage #notodoc #planetadisantacecilia — 6 years ago
2007 Orma Toscana from Tenuta Sette Ponti. Bordeaux blend from Tuscany. 40% Cab Franc 20% Cab Sauv 40% Merlot. The wine spent 12 months in French bariques and another 12 in the bottle. Dark berries, spice, with hints of Licorice and chocolate. Well integrated tannins and a nice full finish. Should drink well for another 4-5 years. #tuscanwine #italianredwine #supertuscan #maremma #orma #tenutasetteponti #bordeauxblend #2007tuscanvintage #goodredwine #nobleestates — 6 years ago
Villa Cafaggio Cortaccio. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. A nice garnet colour in the glass. This 2008 is lovely. From the Panzano Estate, this wine was aged for 18 months in new French Oak. The result? A well balanced Tuscan Cabernet that delivers flavours of leather, tobacco, herbs and some earthiness. Well balanced acidity and tannins. Lovely wine.

2015 Tawse Growers Blend Cabernet Franc from Niagara. Med body, with dark fruit, a little tobacco and slightly licorice like on the back end. Still some oak showing but otherwise well balanced tannins and good acidity. Had it open for 20 minutes but would prefer to taste again in 2-3 years. All in all a very good example of Niagara Cab Franc. #CabernetFranc #NiagaraRedWine #Tawse #GrowersBlend #2015NiagaraVintage #PaulPender #VQA #DrinkCanadianWine — 6 years ago
Pure Sangiovese from Montemercurio in Montepulciano. Deep ruby coloured in the glass. Traditional Sangiovese flavours, including cherries, spice, earthiness and a hint of balsamic. Good mouth feel and acidity leaving a robust finish. The best grapes from the south west facing vineyards are hand harvested, spend 18-20 days on the skins, 18 months in large Slovenian oak vats, another 6 months in smaller vats and 12 months in bottle before release. #italianredwine #tuscanwine #sangiovese #montepulciano #montemercurio #messaggero #nobiledimontepulciano #vinorosso #italianwine — 6 years ago
This 2011 Petra is a varietal Sangiovese from vineyards near the town of Suvereto, on the hills of the Val di Corona. A modern winery in a region the with vine growing roots (no pun intended) going back to the Greeks and Etruscans. Even after an hour in the decanter this wine has not fully opened. In spite of that, it is still very smooth on the palate with a noticeable earthiness, leather, tobacco and quite a bit of licorice on the finish. Good and juicy acidity, yet tannins are a little tight. Will definitely benefit from a little more ageing.

2013 Petra Potenti Rosso Toscana IGT. 100% Cabernet from Tuscany. Lots of black fruit and still some sour cherry to add a little tartness. Some spice, leather and tobacco round out the mouth feel. Still lots of acidity and tannic structure. Easily good for another 5-6 years. Love this wine. #italianwines #tuscanwine #cabernet #italianredwine #toscana #petra #potenti #2013tuscanvintage #drinkitalianwine #italiancabernetsauvignon — 6 years ago
