I don't have a lot of experience with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, but I have had a few vintages of the OG Pepe. This reminds me of those Pepe wines, with a cleaner, more focused palate that is fresher on the fruit and more approachable young. Loads of juicy dark red cherry, cassis, tobacco, and licorice envelop the nose and the palate. The tannin are young, fine but quite firm. Another year or two for those to mellow and integrate, but man its pretty good right now. It's good to see more producers from Abruzzo stepping up their game! #prologo #montepulciano #deFermo — 8 years ago
Perfect for #pizzawine it’s fruity with relatively soft ripe tannin for a #montepulciano #rossoconero — 4 years ago
We had this wine in Montepulciano amazing small city in Tuscany. A good Sangiovese! #montepulciano #contucci #italianwines #tuscany #sangiovese — 6 years ago
This is not brilliant wine but definitely easy to drink for $15. A weakness for Montepulciano D'Abruzzo allows me to cut it some slack. Red cherry, some spice and good acidity would lend this wine to an easy pizza or basic pasta night. Should improve in the bottle over the next 5 years.

A fantastic Montepulciano, this punches way above the cost of admission. Made of Montepulciano grapes from Abruzzo, there is a lot to like and a great introduction to the higher quality versions of this grape.
This wears the sunny and warm 2011 vintage well with a kiss of oak, some herbs, red cherry and a flush of red licorice on the finish.

Me and my boyfried had this wine in Chiusi in a small city in Tuscany! It's an amazing Sangiovese we spend 28 euro at the restaurant! #montepulciano #vinonobile #riserva #2013 #italianwines — 6 years ago
Pure Sangiovese from Montemercurio in Montepulciano. Deep ruby coloured in the glass. Traditional Sangiovese flavours, including cherries, spice, earthiness and a hint of balsamic. Good mouth feel and acidity leaving a robust finish. The best grapes from the south west facing vineyards are hand harvested, spend 18-20 days on the skins, 18 months in large Slovenian oak vats, another 6 months in smaller vats and 12 months in bottle before release. #italianredwine #tuscanwine #sangiovese #montepulciano #montemercurio #messaggero #nobiledimontepulciano #vinorosso #italianwine — 6 years ago
100% Sangiovese from several estates near the historic town of Montepulciano.
Deep ruby in the glass, this wine spent 18 months in oak and delivers expected Sangiovese flavours of black cherry, earth, leather, tobacco and a little spice. Good complexity and balance with enough tannic structure to last another 5-7 years.
