Solid 9.0. #barossa valley #barossavalley blend of #gsm #grenache, #shiraz and #mataro or #garnacha #syrah and #monastrell #mourvedre Deep deep color typically ripe (low latitude=intense sunlight) medium (+) aromas of red and black fruit, hints of ink, chocolate and toast. On the palate...as one would expect, ripe and juicy. Maintains a lovely balance between the ripeness and juicy sweetness of the fruit, the medium acidity and the high alcohol (hardly noticeable) and ripe tannins. Good stuff. Reminds me of my wines from Campo de Borja. #australia #southaustralia — 5 years ago
Deep ruby colour. Meaty and ripe #shiraz aromas of black cherries accompanied by tart strawberries from the #grenache and dried leave of the #mourvedre #barossavalley — 5 years ago
2016 vintage. Red plum, hoisin, shiitake on soft wood, cinnamon and cedar, coffee rye, palm bark, lilac. Expansive sour cherry, cranberry, pipe tobacco, leather, apple skin, allspice, nutmeg and clove. Really a perfect Côtes du Rhône from a great vintage, shining, deific at eight years.

Explosive eucalyptus aroma, softer black fruit several layers below that, some violets, earthy fruit palate, dark coffee bitterness, solid foundation of acidity, tongue-hugging bold tannins and a finish that’s miles long. Bought this #mourvedre onsite at the vineyard around Thanksgiving 2019. It’s a boutique production from a vineyard site where the grape vines are growing near a large stand of ubiquitous Blue Gum Eucalyptus trees. This might be love it or hate it but it’s damn interesting. It was my wife’s birthday and we’d be waiting for the occasion to open it as we both loved it. I imagine a great pairing might be clove-studded lamb to pick up the menthol notes but we had it with pizza and it still held up well to the bold flavors of our various toppings. Second bottle out of 3 of this fascinating, delicious #mourvedre from a deep-rooted, renowned family producer in #sonomacounty. This wine is interesting when it opens up, big eucalyptus, menthol up nose, layered black/purple fruit, dark coffee, nice acidity and some fine grippy tannins. Paired well with an Indian-topped pizza with that bold eucalyptus fruit and acid standing up well to the spicy flavors. #contracostacounty #bigbreakvineyard — 2 months ago
