Delightful #gsm #cotesdurhone Decanting is a must - my impatient palate detected some weird funk and a torrent of unbalanced vanilla on the first taste that disappeared after a half hour in the glass. Subtly spicy bramble berry, black olive, and Provençal herbs on the nose. On the palate espresso becomes apparent. Succulent acidity, substantial yet genteel tannins on a long finish. — 7 years ago
I took a guess that this #beaucastel “Coudoulet,” which was a third of the price of their renowned CdP in a fine restaurant wine list, would still be awesome. No surprise the excellence of this Château carries through here - elegant fruit-forward #cotesdurhone, velvety tannins and herbs + spice touches. Delicious wine paired with coriander lamb chops. — 7 years ago

A delicious #syrah at incredible value. Showing well now but should age well. Med to almost med + complexity on the nose. Blue fruit along with spice and violets. A firmly structured palate with great balance and good length. Sweet cotton candy finish. #gramenon #southernrhone #cotesdurhone #ctbucklinwine — 9 years ago
I #loveit true #cotesdurhone style with the freshness and slickness of a great #syrah I even like it better than this winery's #châteauneuf — 9 years ago

The best #cotesdurhône #cotesdurhone out there. Kills overpriced #châteauneuf and kills watered down Côtes-Du-Rhône — 6 years ago
Fruit-driven character on this #cotesdurhone, cassis and bramble berry up front, finishes with some toffee and vanilla notes, plenty of acididty and a long finish with lingering tannins. It's a bit thin at the end and missing some herbs and spice to make things more interesting. #wsjwineclub **Update: just this week I’ve been enjoying this wine a glass a day and it just keeps going like the Energizer Bunny, virtually no oxidation and it’s opened up more with a longer finish. Rhône blends like this continue to surprise and impress me.

Other than Châteauneauf-du-pape, this is probably one the better #cotesdurhone I’ve had from #wsjwineclub. Weighty nose featuring cassis, blackberry preserves, slate, garrigue, forest floor. Meaty palate with bitter cocoa, some acidity and chewy tannins. I might have laid it down a few years to see what happens but the weather’s getting cooler here in Houston so here we are. — 6 years ago
Up and coming region of #cotesdurhone. Cassis and garrigue herbs and baking spice smells. Juicy acidity, dark chocolate and espresso and medium tannin that linger into a coffee-bitter finish. Good value from #wsjwineclub — 7 years ago
Excellent #cotesdurhone offering from Guigal - I’m easily wowed by the layers of herbs and peppery spice, balanced fruit and juicy acidity on the palate. — 7 years ago
Nice ~$8 #cotesdurhone #rose at Costco. @Ellen Clifford hit the tasting notes exactly. — 7 years ago
A 2009 Côtes du Rhône? For 13 bucks? Ok - twist my arm, RiteAid. E. Guigal suggests an eight year max on this one, and yep, still drinking nicely. The blend is a classic GSM, (52% Grenache, 45% Syrah, and 3% Mourvèdre), grown in the Rhône region of France - a hotbed of viticulture since the 1600s. Guigal has been cultivating wine inthe region since ~1940s producing both easily approachable table wine, (like the monsieur pictured here), and high end expensive bottles of pure delicious sunshine. Paired this with a yellow curry and for the price point, it was well worth it. Not sure there are many 2009s still out there - but for the money, you could do a lot worse. ~$13 | #guigal #côtesdurhône #gsm
On the eyes: Ruby with orange tinted rim, med concentration, bright, med stain, med tears, no gas/floc.
On the nose: top notes of violet move through stewed blackberries, a touch of spice and licorice ending in a gravelly earthiness, med alcohol.
On the tongue: med+ acid, med tannin, med+ alcohol, med+ body, mellowed out and round on the palette. Overripe black plum, bing cherry, a touch of spice, and nice mineralty. Not overly fussy, drinks easily. The geezer should breathe a bit before you go, though. — 9 years ago
A #cotesdurhone that punches above its price class. Pretty hairy tannins at first but you gotta let it breathe to mellow out and then you notice the pepper and spice on the beginning of a long finish. This wine is pretty flexible with food pairing. I will say I enjoyed older vintages more than this 2015. — 9 years ago

2016 vintage. Red plum, hoisin, shiitake on soft wood, cinnamon and cedar, coffee rye, palm bark, lilac. Expansive sour cherry, cranberry, pipe tobacco, leather, apple skin, allspice, nutmeg and clove. Really a perfect Côtes du Rhône from a great vintage, shining, deific at eight years.
