Stag's Leap Wine Cellars
Hands of Time Napa Valley Red Wine
#MERLOTTHURSDAY
This Napa red blend is always enjoyable. Showing black fruits with wood, vanilla, chocolates, tobacco, spices, peppercorn, coffee and mocha.
Dry on the palate, big, bold and very fruity, with a teeth staining color.
A good pop and pour kind of wine, and gets better as it opens up (2 hours).
This 3 year old is showing mild complexity and a great mouthfeel. Still young and needs 5 years in the bottle to mature properly and show more complexity.
A blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Aged for 17 months in French oak barrels.
14.8% alcohol by volume .
92 points.
$35.

Dense purple-red. Black currant and mint aromas on initial pour. Black currant, cherry and mint flavors with a hint of raspberry. Slightly drying astringency which persists, seed bitterness emerges after a couple of hours. Reasonable Cab Sauv blend, excellent value

Mar 5th, 2020Here’s an incredibly approachable, succulent, and delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Napa Valley, California.
We enjoyed sipping this wine while participating in a virtual wine tasting with Assistant Winemaker Luis Contreras, who provided context behind this wine’s beautiful label.
He explained that in 1970’s there were more than 35 vineyard workers who worked the land at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. Some stayed and others left to become winemakers and/or vineyard owners of their own.
They all left an indelible handprint on the trajectory of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and this label pays tribute to them and their influence on the success of Stag’s Leap. The label was inspired by the real-life plaques created with these individuals’ handprints on French Limestone which remain on the walls of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars to this day.
This wine is medium purple. Very fruit-forward with ripe blackberry, black currant, and boysenberry, also anise, dark chocolate, vanilla, nutmeg, and clove. It has balance with a good amount of acidity to complement the ripe fruit characteristics and higher alcohol (14.3% ABV). It has smooth tannins. It is ready to drink now.
Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Hands of Time, Napa Valley, Red Blend, 2017, 14.3% ABV.
