Stella di Campalto Podere San Giuseppe
Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese
This was my first bottle i tasted from Stella and i remember comparing it to an Echezeaux, but it has gone next level up in body and complexity
I know it's a Rosso, but it feels like a huge Brunello with extra power.
Raspberry, leather, balsamic and licorice which are what you look for in a Brunello..plus wild strawberries, white plums, blood orange and nectarines...black truffle, cola, bay leaves, cardamom and soy sauce..and more trust me...in the mouth it's a refined sangiovese grosso vibrant, in tension and super enjoyable.
Had a little bruise on the label and didn't make it to the auction...
Sublime..made me so happy
At peak and perhaps also for many more years too

Had it November 2011.
Transparent and brilliant ruby. Nose with Pinot noir like scents and Sangiovese personality.
Full of shades. From little red berries, iron, liquorice going to a lot more. Full palate, good structure, aromatic and long. Easy to drink. Great expression of Montalcino. Ready, but with some years ahead. We can compare it with an Echezeaux or a Vosne Romanee 1er Cru.

Jun 16th, 2015Nice red fruits, minerals, a touch smoky. Pretty cool wine. A touch of oak, but nicely integrated.

Mar 10th, 2022It was obvious at first Sup that this was not a $20 bottle of wine. It was great. Loved it. To be honest, the price point was looming over me. This would have been a great $80 bottle. While it was solid, my expectations were high and I’m not sure by how far my bar was exceeded.

Mar 12th, 20182008 magnum. Very smooth and silky. More concentrated than other Stella wines I've tasted, due to the hot vintage, but still very elegant. One of the very best producers in Montalcino.
