I have a strong preference for Tuscan and northern Italian wines so I was a bit leery of this Sicilian #nerodiavola. Much of the impact is on the heady cassis aroma. With that sniff I’m expecting a syrupy fruit bomb but there’s a surprising balance of acidity and a touch of sour cherry that carries through the finish, mixed with some dark cocoa bitterness and firm tannins. I think it’s much better once it’s been opened for a day.
