Tenuta Monolo
Riserva Bramaterra Nebbiolo Blend
Love this Little known region and little known winery; they actually put the region on the map. They never released their wines as they saw it as a conflict of interest since they were instrumental in creating the Doc. The importer was able to buy their entire cellar resulting in Gems like this 2001 being available. It opened up into something complex and lovely. Dried fruit, earth & leather!

Feb 23rd, 2018Really wish I had more of this. I’d say a good hour decant would do this justice. The sweet dried rose petals, ripe red cherry, prune, moist leaves, damp wood, mushroom, clove and cinnamon really comes out the longer it sits. Just gorgeous. An initial juicy acidity coats the palate, then rushes down the sides of the tongue. There’s a similar tasting profile to the nose, with more cherry skin and potpourri. Hmmmm

May 25th, 2020This baby has come into its element. Violet and earthy flavors leap out of the glass while the tannins are integrated and pleasing. First rate wine.

May 22nd, 20192001 on Dec 15, 2018 at BBR during pre-Christmas. Purchased from Vanessa at Pasta Works. Every bottle has been a wonderful expression of Spanna from Alto Piemonte. A tribute to those who winemakers who never gave up.

Dec 19th, 2018Can’t ask for much more at this price point. $99 on list at Popina, with pasta and white truffles. Classic Nebbiolo aromatics, slightly on darker side of spectrum and less floral. Still carrying some fruit but moving into secondary phase. No photo

Nov 4th, 2018A wine that I just couldn’t get enough of Literally, I bought out the remaining stock. Very cool back story, two friends began the vineyard in the early 70’s in were then responsible for the appellation getting DOC status in 79’. Given their role in the founding of the appellation, the owners thought it would be a conflict of interest to sell their wines so there is a significant catalog of back vintages that slowly hit the market. So per my shop owner this can be exceedingly hard to find at least for now. The exact proportions of the blend are unknown, but records from the property suggest they had planting’s of 60% Nebbiolo, 20% Croatina, 10% of each Uva Rara and Vespolina and used all their planting’s in this bottling. From my point of the majority is Nebbiolo, but is 100% delicious. I couldn’t stop smelling it as it’s showing tertiary flavors on the nose and palate. Floral notes lead the way to leather, tobacco, spice notes, and ample black fruits. Great structure and balance. Buy it if you see it.

Apr 28th, 2018Light to medium bodied. Maraschino cherries on the nose. Grass, tobacco. Unbelievably balanced, with a slightly scratchy mouthfeel. Nice dry finish. Absolutely delicious for drinking alongside dinner, no matter what you're eating.
