Tenuta Sette Ponti
Oreno Toscana Super Tuscan Blend
Oreno, takes its name from the river crossing the estate where the farmhouse is found. Blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cab Sauv & 10% Petit Verdot, aged 18 mos in new French oak. Went to a tasting, had ‘14 & ‘15 side by side. Big ripe berry fruit aromas with sweet spice notes. On the palate rich blackberry & cherry flavors with cacao, tobacco, oak & flinty tones. Firm big tannins needing time showing great aging potential, lingering ending with succulent earthy mineral character. ‘15 much better. Tasting Sample!

Oct 17th, 20182015: Excellent Merlot/Cabernet based Super Tuscan, drinking well now. Lots of concentrated purple and blue fruit somewhat balanced by moderate tannins and menthol. Viscous and well-made, though lacking the grip of a Tignanello. Would expect more complexity to complement the fruit over time. $89 at WL.

Jun 25th, 2023Super young. Took 30 minutes to catch its breath but this was full bodied, luscious yet restrained black fruit with floral notes all around. Finishes with a lot of stiff young oak tannin. The best years of this wine are definitely ahead of it, and I would LOVE to see where this one is in 5 years.
