Thibault Liger-Belair
Vieilles Vignes Moulin-à-Vent Gamay

Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2010 pours a hazy garnet/purple color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of tart, ripe and desiccated fruits: blackberries, black licorice, horse blanket, some animale, mushrooms, forest floor, rocky earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. It has been eight years since I last enjoyed this vintage of the VV and it continues to age with a lot of grace. Drink now through 2030+.

Delicious. Deep and dark yet also lifting with almost citrus acids. So juicy. Love the 2010 transparency. Crunchy granite infused finish. Complex and utterly compelling. Long finish.

Popped and poured. My heavens...this is a treat to smell. Raspberries, quetsche and spice and it's all right there and in the right proportions. On the palate, I'm immediately struck at the structure. This is not some flimsy Beaujolais. In fact, this is more serious than many 1er Cru I've had from the Cote du Beaune! Tightly wound red fruit in abundance but there's more hanging out in the wings...it's hard to really pinpoint right now but I think all will eventually be revealed, with time. Tannins are still surprisingly firm. Such is the balance of this wine that I expect it to be drinking well into the next decade. These are worthy of being sought out. Drink with some patience or Hold.

Still rather young. Austere. But there is something really mysterious going on with this. Need to find the patience to hold my remaining bottles

If you are ever trying to convince someone that Beaujolais is more than just Nouveau, crack this open. That Burgundian must is present, and I promise this can stand up to many Pinots that are twice the price.
