Come for tasting group, stay for the Clos St. Hune '89 VT Hors Choix. Classic CSH power, augmented by more than a little botrytis and 15-20 grams of RS. Lots of dehydrated but still juicy yellow and pink stone fruit merges with the white tea, chamomile, fresh bay leaf notes. Mushroom tea and juniper bush as well. A singular expression of this vineyard, and one I wish I could try again, but given they only made it in '59 and '89, I find it unlikely. Only thing stopping me from giving it higher ratings is the fact that this vineyard expresses itself better as a dry wine, but the finish is just a flawless, graceful parabola. Just at the beginning of its maturity window and will drink well for years to come. One of those wines that tasting notes always kind of fail for though...
