Turnbull Wine Cellars
Black Label Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Thank you @richardmiyake for bringing this incredible wine. The first young Turnbull for us and what a treat.
Deep purplish red. Tons of blackberries on the nose once it started to open up, followed by notes of anise and solid minerality. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Rich yet tight on the palate with some blackberries, dark gravel, cinnamon and a little floral. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2035. Needed an hour or so in the decanter to open up.

Everything this wine is about is dark, dried, intense. Tar and figs with stewed berries on the nose yield ever-so-briefly to some bright red raspberries on the tongue but, within the course of a second, dry out and deepen to dried blackberries and figs, then further still to paste and dare I say to completely dehydrated. From there is transitions perfectly into an agressive, yet polished medium tannic finish. Every glass does the same, and it's a fun quick ride. Braised short ribs didn't hold much to this, but the blacklabel it did its job proudly. It's a proud wine, who gives off the quick impression that it is approachable and friendly, then unyeildingly drags you into it's deep, dark personality and doesn't care what you think.

May 1st, 2019Monster. Little dense and ripe for me. Blend of best barrels. Lotta scratch.

Jul 14th, 2018Lovely wine, indeed. Very juicy and vibrant with rich dark fruits, licorice, lavender, and mild notes of clove and unsmoked pipe tobacco.
