Les Gravières Santenay 1er Cru Pinot Noir

My second bottle of this. Wasn't impressed with first. I'm going to rate this over two nights to see if it comes around.

Night 1: Decanted. First glass seemed thin and smelled of old dried out leather; Brett? As the night progressed the leathery stuff receded. Sour cherry fruit emerged on the nose with a heavy, almost pungent, dose of rock dust. Lean, almost skeletal, in the mouth. Intense underripe bitter cherry fruit and sharp cracked granite minerality. Just seems out of proportion, like a cubist Picasso painting: You can tell what it is, but it doesn't look (taste) quite like it should. Will revisit tomorrow.

NIGHT 3: after being under a VacuVin enclosure for 2 days, this is WAY better. Nice sappy cherry mineral nose. Good acids and purity in the mouth. It even looks more youthful. I have no idea why this should happen, but I'm not complaining. I am upping this from an 8.5 to an 8.7.

Leather in the nose. Susan gets some cognac. Light and very quafable. Not particularly fruity or complex. Light finish

Medium-bodied with dark fruit, spice and earth. Had with Chilean Sea Bass over risotto and they complemented each other nicely.
