Wynns Coonawarra Estate
Coonawara Cabernet Sauvignon
Crimson with a Tawny rim showing its age. Mellow and resolved - round and soft at 17 years of age. Black Olive tapenade and chocolatey notes. Leading Australian Wine Scribe, James Halliday, describes Wynns Black Label Cabernet as “the most important Cabernet in Australia with a magnificent history “. The first vintage was 1954 and in a few months time when the 2018 is released it will be the 63rd. Amazing QPR - the current 2017 can be purchased for $31.90 AUD. The wine is matured in new (never more than 20%) and old French and American oak for between 12 and 18 months depending on vintage.

Mar 14th, 2020Perennial favorite! Not the greatest vintage but of so lovely. Blackberry fruit still evident but it is the dusty sweet tannins caressing my palate that I love the most! Pure heaven!

Apr 22nd, 2023Delicious tonight. All sorts of notes in there: blackberry, blackcurrant, cigar box, mint, olive, subtle spice, all set upon a bed of firm tannins. Hasn't been in the decanter long, so looking forward to seeing how it shapes up tomorrow.

Sep 1st, 2017Evolving nicely yet still youthful. Notes of peppermint, leather, vanillin oak and blackberry on the nose followed by concentrated black fruit, savoury texture and grippy tannins on the palate. Slight acid sharpness.
