I’m not across the different sub districts of the Barossa to be fully aware of the different micro climates but this Yalumba wine from the Northern Barossa was sufficiently different with aromas of liquorice blue fruits and tar. Spice black pepper and Soft tannins. Mouthfilling and delicious.

Dec 2nd, 2022Very dark crimson in colour with youthful purple rim. Black and blue fruits with a note of black pepper and thistle. Another rich Barossa perfect for Winter. A full bodied palate with black fruits and that pepper there on the palate. Well controlled oak influence with 18 months in French Oak puncheons new (11%), balance 1 year and older. When I first tried this at the Yalumba dinner last year I preferred this wine to some of Yalumba’s high priced Cuvées like the Octavius and The Caley.

A quick note - this was brilliant particularly for the money which was about a third of the price of the Octavius and a fraction of The Caley. Fleshy and fruity covering the spectrum from Pepper through to Plum with sweet Tannins. Short term cellaring- drink now to 10 years. A very good Northern Barossa Shiraz. I bought 6.
