Limpid ruby. A complex and finely detailed bouquet evokes red and dark fruit preserves, pipe tobacco, smoky oak and candied rose and a succulent herb nuance builds in the glass. Offers bitter cherry, mulberry, cola, floral pastille and spicecake flavors, along with hints of vanilla and mocha. The smoky note recurs on an impressively long, floral- and spice-driven finish that's framed by smooth, even tannins. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, December 2021)

It’s a good wine, but feels very safe and is somewhat uninspiring. Has a great mix of primary and secondary (winemaking) characters and strokes a good balance between the varietals. Still very primary with an an abundance of ripe tannin that gives the wine plenty of approachability.

Robust, oakey, pretty good with a braai, give it some time to decant, a few weeks earlier another bottle was awful without some alone time to consider itself.

Deep cherry red in the glass. Tiny brick colored flecks throughout. The nose is very interesting and doesn’t skimp on the complexity. Initially the dark fruits such as blueberries and boysenberry are in starring roles. An appropriate amount of oak is present, alongside chocolate and pretty blue flowers. Black pepper shows after giving this plenty of time. Seriously terrific aromas here.

Almost equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, this is one of Yalumba’s prestige offerings and that distinction is clearly evident. A sturdy core of lively acidity with truly wonderful balance. This is built to last but drinking very well at the moment but requires a strong decant. On day two, it was greatly improved.

The wine is so alive on the palate. Full bodied as is the norm but you never really feel the 14.5. More of those juicy dark fruits show here with just a touch of earthiness. Milk chocolate, toasted oak, and a bit of bacon grease. Save it and you’ll be rewarded. Drink now and you’ll be happy. You can’t really go wrong.
