Rare opportunity to taste the liquid history of Ontario. Brought from the winemaker's own cellar to our class. Really shows it's age with its brick appearance and lots of tertiary notes of damp earth and cellar aromas. The bouquet has many layers and could be explored for some time. The mouthfeel is still wonderful and the palate confirms the nose. This is a wine that will be remembered for a very long time. Many thanks to Herr Kaiser for this milestone in an Oenophile's life. — 10 years ago

Colour: Lighter than the majority of Spanish examples I've tasted. Garnet core to a watery rose rim.

Nose: Red fruits, mild oak, and some spice, coming across rather closed.

Palate: medium bodied, soft tannins, acidity is balanced. Palate confirms nose.

For the price ($17 in NS) this is a nice change from the over-oaked style so many Spanish Tempranillos exhibit.

After some decanting it is much more expressive and softens further. A slight coffee note on the nose becomes apparent with time.

A correction is needed. This year's pink slip is actually a Merlot/Riesling mix. Picked this up from the on-site store. The nose is fruity which is characterized by slightly under-ripe raspberries and tart apples. Medium body at 12% abv, well structured with a strong acid backbone and no perceived tannins. The length is fairly short but accurate for it's style and price point. Excellent wine that is obviously well made (and not just saying that because I know the man who made it). Great on it's own but definitely something that could be very versatile at a dinner table. The best rosé I have had, hands down. — 10 years ago

Sour cherry, some plum, Oak, and a beautiful tar-esque finish that reminds me of an Islay single malt (getting Laphroaig flashbacks). Italy has always been where I've had a under $40 red that absolutely floored me with quality and exremely interesting non fruit primary flavours/aromas....this is no different. — 10 years ago

Great stuff. Appearance-wise it's the same general hue as Pepsi or coke sans CO2. Nose is burnt caramel, brown sugar, nuts, dried fruit, touch of smoke and maybe some meat? The palate confirms the nose and has enough acidity to remain a balanced experience even with a whopping 112g/L sugar content. This wine screams after dinner drink and should be a real kicker for Christmas due to all the dried fruit and nuts coming across as something to go with Christmas cake and definitely cheese. — 10 years ago

Brought to my Ontario wine history class by the co-founder of Inniskillin, Herr Karl Kaiser. The colour is pure gold and extremely viscous. The nose is still tropical as an icewine dispite it's age and filled with tonnes of brown sugar. The palate confirms the nose and is absolutely delicious...the sweetness is well balances by good acidity, the beauty of Vidal icewine is exemplified in this bottle. Danke Herr Kaiser! — 10 years ago
