2016 tasted 1/2019. Rich golden yellow. Beautiful floral and honeyed yellow apple aromas. Full bodied with palate of ripe apple and a nice thread of acidity. Very pleasant. Virginia should be growing less Viognier and more petit manseng. — 6 years ago

Ryan, accurate as usual :) The PM is really challenging in the cellar (dealing with high brix vs soaring alcohol) - hard to make the same wine vintage to vintage. Linden/GlenManor make exquisite dessert builds, BTW. I opened a 2008 from Jim that was perfection. Dry or almost dry styles are becoming the new bullseye for winemakers. Michael Shaps 2016 offering is great example! Personally, I am ok with 3-5% RS when the acidity is rocking - love it with Thai & Indian cuisine :) One can hardly tell because of the balance!

Ron, Good to know on the cellar piece. I didn’t know it was difficult to work with. I was just floored by the quality of this one. It was the star of the dinner party as well. Everybody loved it. I agree about the residual sugar in principle although I do tend to gravitate towards drier whites. Thanks for the tips for future bottles. I have a bottle of Linden late harvest PM btw. I don’t remember the vintage off the top of my head but I tasted it at the vineyard. It was exquisite indeed.

2014 tasted 12/2018. Straw yellow, medium body. Warm and inviting nose of honeyed quince and white flowers. As the wine opens up there are aromas of licorice and a suggestion of minerality. Honey and licorice are the most prominent aromas. Dry with great body as well as mineral-acid structure to balance the honeyed fruit that carries through to a finish that is reminiscent of candied sultanas. Impressive intro to P-M for a bargain. — 6 years ago

2012 tasted in 12/2018. Full bodied, dark purple, concentrated. Very fragrant perfectly ripe, ie not overly ripe, black fruits, blueberries, sweet tobacco, vanilla. Palate follows the nose with great driving acidity that gives it a very long finish. — 6 years ago

2016 tasted 12/2018. Light bodied, ruby red. Nose of earth and red cherries, cola. Palate follows the nose. Greater concentration of fruit and acid in this than that of the Eileen Vineyard cuvée from the same year, which gives this a longer, more pleasant finish. — 6 years ago

2013 tasted in 12/2018. Inky purple, full bodied. Pungent reductive aromas initially that dissipate with aeration, decanting helps. Black pepper, cured meat and black fruit punch in the nose. Hints of savory black cardamom spice. Very fragrant. Palate follows the nose with tremendous concentration, tannins are young, great acid structure. This is one for the cellar. I’m almost ashamed to have opened it so early.. but I couldn’t help myself and I can’t really say I regret it. — 6 years ago

Juice bomb. Very ripe, perhaps overly so, such that the finish is raisiny. Oak is a heavy handed. That said it is smooth and not at all unpleasant to drink. Kind of run of the mill California Cab sauv. — 6 years ago

Another ripe, full bodied, fruit forward California Cab. Great concentration and even though here is a little thread of acidity which helps balance it’s ripe fruit, it still is on the verge of overly ripe for my taste. Nevertheless, the concentrated, mouth-wateringly voluptuous black fruit in this wine is irresistibly delicious. — 6 years ago
