Revisiting this since 2014. Medium yellow color. Aromas of grapefruit, kiwi and black currant. Sharp citrus flavors with a flint finish. — 3 months ago

Estate MX Cuvée Petit Verdot 2013

2013 vintage. Much more meshing on day 2. Very structure-driven with gritty tannins. Black currant, graphite, lingonberry, black plum, black cherry, violets, non-descript woody notes. Good example of the variety from a warmer climate. — 4 years ago

Yesterday’s Wednesday Wine Committee lunch. Normal format of 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All tasted blind.

Here was the ringer out of the 4 reds and it was quite easy to recognize. Total wash of sweet and ripe fruits...baked mixed berry pie, sandalwood, milk chocolate and toasted vanilla on the nose. The palate was oozing with blackberries, peppercorn and rhubarb tart. I called this Cali Petite Sirah. Nothing about this was cab franc like to me (and I love cab franc). Almost zin like.

@Shay A I recently grabbed an 03 of this on sale. While 03 is obviously a lesser vintage, it’s encouraging to see this 02 drinking well. Perhaps my 03 will have a more typical Franc profile if it has any life left in it...

@Adam Beasley : I’ll be curious to hear of your experience. I was certainly surprised it had this much fruit to it at 17yrs!
