Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina 2017

This is a simple Amarone.

Showing black fruits with light wood, spices, dark chocolates and coffee.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate and very fruity.

Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

A little unbalanced, but drinkable nonetheless. Spicy and entertaining.

A good everyday wine. Good by itself and good for parties.

16% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

Masi

Rosso del Veronese IGT Oseleta 2007

As a huge aficianado of Nebbiolo, the rare varietal Oseleta (from Veneto, Valpolicella zone) is just a massive & tannic dream to me, too. Extincted for ages, Masi, led by il dottor Sandro Boscaini, replanted Oseleta (in the 80s) - one of the very very few growers in Italy and the whole world. What came to life was a wine named Osar (today 100% Oseleta, before blended with a little bit of Corvina; first vintage was like 1997, I believe). Quite dark color, with some violet nuances.. Intense, spicy nose.. Very very austere, especially at the first sip. Brawny, tannic, dark fruits (prunes), licorice, cola, graphite, a bit of campher, some oriental spices. Needs a good load of air to open up. This one is a long-distance runner.. 10 years and the 2007 shows still zero signs of age.. A 1998 one last year was simply terrific (nicely integrated & smoth tannins and fruitcake, prune jam I remember most). Limited bottles, 5000-6000 (0.75l) per year. — 7 years ago

La Preosa Valpolicella Classico Superiore Corvina Blend 2019

This is an excellent example of the modern style of Valpolicella - still firm acidity but more fruit and depth than in the past. The wine’s Classico roots clearly show with sour cherry, black cherry, violet, red plum and a bit of leather and forest floor in the background. It has medium minus body, soft and supple tannins and, at 13.5%abv, it has all its components in excellent balance. Very nice and can even ages for another year or two though hard to resist right now. — a year ago

Ca' de Loi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 1997

Rich core of prunes, chocolate and balsamic. Color is gorgeous garnet-ruby and tinges of orange/pink. Half an hour in the glass and it was showing beautifully — 10 years ago

Vigneti di Marano Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 1991

Still gorgeous 28 years after harvest. Color: deep garnet. Nose: raisin. The taste evolved beautifully, too. It started off surprisingly light in body and reminiscent of plum tart. After some 40 minutes in the glass it grew deeper and richer, with notes of stewed fruit. — 5 years ago
