Sorry, I'm not going to rave about this as much as some of the other reviewers. Needs to be decanted and to breathe (!) for an hour (at least). Initially, it has an unpleasant pucker factor, But once it opens up it develops a nice bouquet of leather and earth. The tannins become smoother, but for the price point you're paying for this, I think you can do better with a less expensive wine --- at least if you're drinking it young. But very nice. Not fantastic. This was the 2013 vintage opened Jan 2017. On the other hand, you can probably put this down for 15 years, and it will be perfect -- if you have the patience. I'll probably be dead by then, so I don't. — 8 years ago
This however is a very elegant wine. Very well made. Subtle. Delicate. — 11 years ago
Fruity bouquet but dry on the tongue. Blackberries. Medium bodied good legs. — 6 years ago
Restrained nose of barrel toast and cassis.
The palette is smooth and lithe. It's very sweet, with fully integrated, glossy tannins. Extravagant notes of cassis, maraschino cherries and cinnamon dominate. 15.1% abv and the winemaker suggests that this will age for 12-15 yrs - dream on.
Way over the top for me (due to over-extraction), but wifey loved it. My rating is 90. Wifey's rating was 92.
Day 2 Update: 24 hrs has allowed a little unpacking of this juice. It's more approachable now, but it still has the potential to "wake the dead". — 8 years ago
This one had everyone in the room give me an awkward stare. The second i smelled this i said chocolate. People saw a white wine in my hand and assumed i was brain dead. However, i had some comrades confirm i was onto something and we narrowed it down to milk chocolate, snickers wrapper etc. it was complex, delicious and at a bargain. Not what one would ever expect. I had to reset myself after this one. — 10 years ago
