Dogwood & Thistle

Amalie Robert

Amalie's Cuvée Oregon Pinot Noir 2016

Beautiful pungent nose that puts forth like a plum compote or jam, pine sap, perfumed florals, hints at dark red fruits, and maybe a little smoke, and something that makes me think of mushrooms and thistle (though that could just be me) with some peppery grass at the finish. Medium body, with notes of roasted meat, earthy tannin, tart rich plum, and prominent spiced notes. Rich, dark, and extremely expressive without being a fruit juice bomb this is a really good pinot. — 6 months ago

Joh. Jos. Prüm

Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett Riesling 2016

Absolutely gorgeous! Ripe, fleshy pear & peaches in light syrup, a touch of star thistle honey. Delicate, soft herbaceousness: coriander, basil flowers, ripe papaya skin/fiber. Soooo lovely. — 5 years ago

Le Petit Domaine de Gimios

Muscat Petits Grains 2018

One of the most fascinating wines on the nose. Starts with floral citrus and honey moves into Dogwood flowers and honeysuckle.
Intense on the pallete (I confirmed that this has been fortified).
I would drink this for dessert anytime.

Yalumba

Paradox Barossa Shiraz 2015

Very dark crimson in colour with youthful purple rim. Black and blue fruits with a note of black pepper and thistle. Another rich Barossa perfect for Winter. A full bodied palate with black fruits and that pepper there on the palate. Well controlled oak influence with 18 months in French Oak puncheons new (11%), balance 1 year and older. When I first tried this at the Yalumba dinner last year I preferred this wine to some of Yalumba’s high priced Cuvées like the Octavius and The Caley. — 4 years ago
