Damn fine. Bright & alive on the palate, smoky cider & slate. Serious. Thoughtful. Dark grey mineral core. Beautiful late summer rain & wet wool clouds. — 11 years ago
Sourced from a 5 ares (~0.05 hectares) single vineyard in #Aÿ of 50/50 Pinot Noir/Chard. #biodynamic & richer in style with only 2g dosage. Super complex with amazing persistence & texture! Only 420 bottle produced — 13 years ago

Nose: dried bark, cherry, white pepper. Taste: the sensation of a sweetness the finishes in a dry plum. Finish: long, slow, warming like a hug for a lover before a night shift in the dark. — 11 years ago
I ain't proud. Yeah it is roughly that time of year again. A time of dread (why I don't know; after all it is only Gamay, unlikely to hurt you). This one is good, though. Showing a richness and depth unlikely in the typical corporate offering. Plum jam, and blueberry jelly, even a little strawberry, and toasted marshmallow nose. The palate is grapey with a tangerine note beneath; raspberry soda pervades. That signature Brouilly or Morgon powdered grape persistence. For what it is: a winner! What it tells us about Pinot, I have no f---ing idea! — 12 years ago

Strawberry nose, candied strawberries. Very slightly frizzante. Delicious but not overtly complex. One can see why this particular assemblage, named for the pet/colloquial name of Honoré Pascal: The Big.
Supposedly not only was he large, but mellow. Drinking this all day could do that.
But I digress, It’s somewhat indistinct on the palette…but I don’t think that’s the intent. It goes down SO easily and is good with summer foods , that’s the point. There’s a trace of bitterness that’s welcome on the finish. It could be that there are those of us who are inclined towards southern French delicate ones.
Interestingly, on day 2 this was much more interesting and went swimmingly with homemade Baba Ganouj and Chicken in Kubbe sauce(a Middle Eastern chickpea, carrot , celery and spice soup we transformed into a sauce). Along with some Harrisa….
Think I’ll have to revise that silly score.
With Randy.
