Yellow peaches, citrus, cardamom with a lingering wheat dryness. Extremely well made beer. Lots of focus. — 3 years ago

The Old Deer and Fawn Winter Spiced Ale

The bottling is actually the Fuyu Persimmon. The color of the beer is absolutely beautiful a golden orange. The beer is full of flavor and smooth as can be. I wish I had another bottle. — 5 years ago

Graff Ale

Mad Fritz's new graff ale aka cider made with petit Verdot grapes and black apples. Not a huge fan of cider but Nile's@madfritz always crushes it. Amazing acidity and more wine like than a traditional cider. — 3 years ago

The Fox and the Leopard Doppelbock - Lager

A big and rich lager, toasted barley beer.

BREWER'S NOTE:

This richly styled lager is perhaps far from a traditional Doppel Bock due to the use ofwine barrels during aging, Calistoga Well Water as well as our use of Glacier hops. A 5 week 55 F fermentation yielded a crisp and malty driven beer with mild hop notes. Lot 15040727 was aged in freshly emptied first use Petite Verdot French oak barrel from 2012 where it aged for another two months. The aromas are very bold and bright showcasing the impacts of the barrel while the power of this 9.1% Alc. v/v lager pushes back both with flavor and palate texture. These beers are Membership only releases. Lot 16040693 was aged in a French Oak puncheon for 3 months and has an alcohol by volume of 7.8% v/v. Our upcoming release Lot 170613150 spent 5 months in a relatively new French Oak barrel and with an alcohol of 8.6% v/v is more of an Eisbock in style, although probably our best effort to date with wonderful malt tones integrated with oak spice as well.

Arietta

H Block Hudson Vineyards Cabernet Franc Merlot 2016

Shay A
9.3

Arietta Wines lunch with owner Fritz. We were able to taste through some current releases as well as some reserve wines Fritz brought with him personally. A treat to enjoy these Andy Erickson wines!

Lots of potential here but crazy youthful. H Block is CabFranc and merlot co-fermented. At this age, it was really fuzzy and nervy. Bouquet of violets and mulberry but also pepper spice and chalky tannins. This will get more floral but some dark cocoa notes started to show toward the end.

The Old Man and Death Stout

One of three offerings from Mad Fritz last night @ NVWTG. Not usually a stout fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this well balanced brew. Wish I had snapped pics of the others! Great beer with a great story. Serious craftsmanship at work. — 10 years ago
