Ntsiki Biyela

Ntsiki Biyela

Aslina Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Deep ruby in color; cassis, graphite, and black plum on the nose; high acidity; high tannins; tastes like black cherries, boysenberries (I think), red bell pepper, and crushed gravel with a long finish.

After decanting for a little over an hour, I get baking spices, blackberries, and black plums on the nose; the tannins and acidity are still there, but a little more balanced; it tastes the same, but it is definitely better after the decant. I love this wine and how tart it is, but I know it's not for everyone. Nellie likes it with steak.

Aslina Chardonnay 2017

Clean, citrusy Chardonnay. Lots of lime, some tropical fruit, subtle oak and some herbal notes in nose — 5 years ago

Aslina Chardonnay Western Cape 2021

Medium gold in color; Lemon, honeysuckle, and maybe pineapple on the nose; medium plus acidity; tastes like starfruit, yellow apple, and saline with a long finish. Nellie says it's ok. I like it. — 5 months ago

Ntsiki Biyela

Aslina Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Not a strong smell. Has a light, delicate taste that lasts surprisingly long. It comes from a very small winery in South Africa, so it’s hard to find. I really enjoyed it. — 5 years ago

Aslina Chenin Blanc 2021

Majestic. Skin contact. Tea and orange peels. Good complexity. — 8 months ago

Aslina Umsasane Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2020

It drinks like a bold Bordeaux with a burst of dark fruit and an earthiness that gives way to a floral middle and a gritty, graphite finish. Great wine! — 9 months ago

Keplinger Biyela Red Blend 2012

Interesting project pairing U.S. winemakers with those from emerging global economies. Ntsiki Biyela, the South African half of this pairing, is a rising star and I'm dying to get her stuff solo. This one's a unique blend, at least for me: Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, with some Malbec and merlot. Rich and ripe, dark fruit, fairly straightforward but wonderfully intense flavor. — 10 years ago
