Steinberger trocken Rheingau Riesling 2021

Wow. Really nice. My first sip was a bit of a shock. But the ensuing ones were intriguing. Some pear, freen apple, stony minerality that is almost lime- like ( not the fruit). A tinge of the petrol. Very pleasant — 5 days ago

The Mauer where it’s only the grapes picked from the wall where they absorb heat from the day. Peaches and steel. A hint of sweet. Lovely mouthfeel. Fresh and delicious and long. — 5 years ago

Gutsabfüllung aus dem Cabinetkeller Baiken Trocken Riesling 2011

Kloster Eberbach Baiken Riesling Trocken 2011 (Gutsabfüllung aus dem Cabinetkeller, Rheingau)

Big, complex nose with lovely (although far from finished) maturity (petrol, struck match, butter). There’s also honey and ripe yellow fruit (and lots of it).
Wine is intensive on palate with a high, singing acidity. Nice mix of concentrated tropical fruits, spice and maturity notes such as honey, petrol, which makes the palate even more complex than the nose. Finish is long and like nectar.
With all the mature notes sitting in the first seat along with a high acidity - I would really like to try it again with some mature hard cheese.

trocken Rheingau Spätburgunder 2022

A nice Pinot from Germany‘s Rheingau Area - the premier wine region in Germany. And the cost is a laughable 8 Euros. That’s a crazy value and makes me really wonder about US prices. — 7 months ago

This cloister was featured in „Name of the Rose“ by Umberto Eco a Nobel Laureate. A fantastic place with romanesque architecture to visit and enjoy their wines.

Domdechaney Riesling 2011

Great example of German Riesling Auslese. A bit more developed than expected due to small bottle. Aromas of dry herbs, especially sage, honey, dried apricot, baked apple. Great acidity to balance the sweetness. Body is round and smooth, some hazelnuts and butter in the aftertaste — 8 years ago

Pinot Noir 2020

Gift. Drank 11/1/2025 with porcetta dish. Lively bright maybe natural. From the region introduced by Frieder in October 2014 the Frankfurt book fair and from the monastery visited with Oda on hike. Juicy. — 9 months ago

Felseneck Spätlese Riesling 2013

I’ve enjoyed this producer for a few years (specifically the Felseneck GG) but this is my first experience with their Spatlese Riesling from 2013. Followed over two days.

Next to a ‘22 Clemens Busch Auslese and a ‘22 Kloster Eberbach Baiken Erste Lage Trocken, the richness here was Goldilocks…right down the middle. Not a dynamite vintage, yet I’ve found I traditionally enjoy the Spatlese-level and above sweet wines from cooler vintages as the acid and sweetness play nicely together. Exhibit A. Ripe nectarine and white peach aromatically but also plenty of citrus notes. Lemon-lime and limestone grit dance on the mid-palate before a mineral + honeyed profile bring about an elegantly rich profile complemented by both the classical mineral and sweet Spatlese notes. Crushable at 7.5 ABV!

Enjoyable now and I’m not sure it gets better from here, just different. Consistent over both nights.
