N: a kaleidoscope of browns, reds, oranges, forest fruit, rose,trees,transportive.
P: some tar, but integrated into a massive whole, surprisingly open and great w protein. Coats the mouth with a panoply of flavor, fruit earth, floral.

N: Strawberries and peaches with some dirt. Shows best when it’s been out for a bit.
P: Nice bright and lip smacking, it hints at cherries. Very herbal, perfect with a blt and white bean/garlic scape dip.
With extended time out, this fills out, develops a cantaloupe rind quality. — 3 years ago

Sometimes you take a blind chance and get rewarded.
N: Cedar, Rose, Woodsmoke(appropriately),Liquorice, tar. Chocolate.
P:Med bodied and not overly wooded(yay!) Slavonian botti for 36 mo.excellent acid tannin balance, lots of sous-bois, tomato, mint,
Chocolate. meat. As it airs, the palate is richer. Nice work here.
I looked them up and see the Riserva spends half it’s time in smaller barriques. No thank you. Without gloss, this really shines.

N: Watermelon Jolly Rancher nose, some herbal qualities around the edges.
P: Watermelons, Strawberries, lil’ bit o’ cherry. Interesting Garnacha varietal, little bit of frizzante going in. Very light soil thing going on both nose and palate.
Highly refreshing. Interesting mouthfeel, not quite polished.

A wonderful thing indeed. W agitation, fresh strawberries come to the fore.

So this is not exactly Elizabeth. It is the same fruit that goes into the Elizabeth, but they made it only as a vintage. They did not put the Elizabeth name on it. There reason is, they believed it wouldn’t last two generations.
As a vintage, it is better than their N/V but not up to most Elizabeth’s I’ve had. However, it is about half the price of Elizabeth w/o less than half the quality.
It was a bit better than 93, 93.4 so I rounded down. — 16 days ago
