Domaine Duroche

Champ Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2016

2nd bottle from this producer and I keep liking him more and more. Concentrated fruit with the oak blending in very nicely. Tannins with just enough grip to keep you engaged. Paired amazingly with a veal roast. — 5 years ago

Enderle & Moll

Pur Müller Thurgau 2017

Lyle Fass
9.2

Citrus, lime, ginger, minerals, very clean. Grapefruit. Palate has wild high acid, huge citrus fruit and long tangy finish. Needs air but fascinating and delicious as always. Long. Almost tannic and has some good structure as well. — 5 years ago

Sandlands

San Benito County Mataro 2015

Blue and black fruit, bramble, wet earth, violet, fine tannin. This is just starting to soften and I can’t wait to see it with a bit more age — 5 years ago

En Remilly Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2012

As you know, I love this producer in this vineyard. I found some 2012s and they are terrific! The nose alone is intoxicating. Can’t get enough. — 5 years ago

Krug

Grande Cuveé 164ÈME Édition Brut Champagne Blend

Shay A
9.5

As the famous quote goes...“I could not live without Champagne. In victory I deserve it, in defeat I need it.” I can relate to that quote more than I’d like to. This time last year, we were in defeat, grieving the loss of our first born who passed away shortly after birth. Fast forward a year, and this bottle was opened at the hospital this weekend after the birth of my wife and I’s daughter. We are able to celebrate this victory with more joy knowing everyone is healthy, and can’t wait to pop many more bottles at all future birthdays and life events!

Based on the ID, this bottle belongs to the 164éme edition, so the base of this wine is 2008 (youngest) with Reserve going back to 1990 (oldest). From half bottle. Sweet golden apple, honeycomb, brioche and smoked marshmallows aromatics. Great acidity and structure as expected...toffee, caramelized nougat, “oxidative” like sherry/nutty notes, but very bright. Not as dark or rich as previous Grande Cuvee offerings, but it works well here. Lingering finish that shows all the glorious layers Krug can offer. Splendid.

Château Belles-Graves

Lalande de Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Garnet color with hints of brown. Orange rim. Noticeable color extraction in the tears. Black cherry, strawberry, red cassis on the nose. Also nutmeg, anise, clove, leather, and earth. On the palate, strong acidity and tannins that soften as the wine continues to decant. Lingering baking spice notes and heat on the way down. — 5 years ago

R. López de Heredia

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2006

Leather, cigar, olives, burned cherry, oak... a lot of good stuff going on here, but not fully integrated. Still loved it. Especially at the deep discount for a damaged label ($HKD). — 5 years ago

Heitz Cellar

Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

I’ve been sitting on this one for several years after buying it at the winery. Brick red in color. An amazing nose of cinnamon, cedar and baking spices. After a 2 hour decant it was full of fantastic flavors of blackberries, dark plums, dark chocolate and herbs. The tannins were perfectly integrated with the fruit and acidity. This wine might be nearing its peak but I wish I had more bottles of it. Great long finish of dark fruit. — 5 years ago
