Tight, strict and dark upon opening. Took about an hour or so to get somewhat approachable. Pitchblack, purple hew. Black cherries, brambles, black olives, charcoal, ink, ground coffee, black pepper and pencil lead. Lots of soft and ripe tannines, medium acidity, mineral notes throughout the wine. This is young, complex and restrained, but most of all: terrific!
2005 vintage. All about Earl Grey tea, dried red berries and dito herbs, showing some faint ideas of underbrush and meatiness as well, this has seen better days. No doubt in its seriousness, but it's a shale shadow of its former self. — 10 years ago
Went to Australia I see. Giaconda (hope I spelled it correctly) is a serious producer - and not inexpensive! I started on the aussie stuff, but you can only drink so much. I have Grange, The Armagh, 707, Astralis, etc, but can't face em. Just too big and burly...
