Abreu Vineyards
Rothwell Hyde Cabernet Sauvignon
Ridiculous. Opened with the the Quilceda 11. Put the cork back in and left the bottle in the cellar for 24 hours. Could have done it with the #wawine as well. (probably for longer) Huge. 24 hours later it's the most compelling wine I've had in a bit. Graphite, non bell pepper green, the purest black fruit, Oak.

Needs food and a dense pairing. We had chili
Whomever said this needs airtime is dead on. I gassed this with oxygen and let it breathe for 2 hours and it still was just beginning to show its fruit at the tail end.
I would aerate and give a solid 3-4 hour decant next time.

Had this a few nights ago. Second label from David Abreu at Abreu Vineyards. His Madrona Ranch and Thorevelos cabs are off the charts, and while this one was very good, it was definitely a couple of steps down in terms of depth and complexity (of course, it’s more than a couple of steps down in price!). It is, however, a good introduction to the kinds of wine that Abreau makes.

Jan 15th, 2021Way better than the last time I remember having it. The sharp edges have softened and it’s come together. My Eurocave shelf slip (really, really hate the plastic “bottle slipper” as opposed to the old full metal bottom shelf) awhile back which broke a bottle has created issues for my labels.

Jun 6th, 2020Very concentrated and actually tastes more like a ripe Bordeaux than a cali cab. Went perfect with steaks. Opened 4 hours before then 1 hour decant and was ready to drink. Early on was still closed on the nose but after it was singing. Very concentrated wine staining to a certain degree. All in very good!
