Adega Regional de Colares
Arenæ Colares Ramisco
Tiny production Ramisco (7,000 bottles) from own-rooted centurion vines on sand dunes outside Lisboa. Aged 3 years in hundred year-old Brazilian oak foudre - wha???
Beautiful wine, tart cherry, dried herbs, a little of that ol' saddle leather too. Moroccan lamb fits the bill rather well.

A new wine for me from an ancient and dying region in Portugal. In favor of beach homes and development, the old timers that tended the vines in this region are selling their property as its pretty hard to market and sell these wines. A sad state of affairs especially for what I tasted here. Thank you @TJ Maxwell for the introduction!

New on practically all levels. Great weight and texture for food.

Jul 10th, 2015Aromas of fresh-picked raspberries, rose petals, flint, wet forest, a touch of rhubarb. Definitely evolving with air exposure, but like most Colares these days, a 500ml bottle goes quickly. Perfect balance. The acidity is medium +, but, the lively cherry/raspberry fruit character coupled with easy tannins round everything out so well. The finish is easily 1 minute +, and this wine embraces hearty and/or spicy food. An increasingly rare treasure.
