The sub $20 pinot world is a shambolic minefield filled with jack and the giant like flavors... 30ft tall cherry stems and tsunamis of sour apple, skin and rind. This is *not* that. Perhaps credit the Mendocino bones, but it has lovely notes of chalk and new leather. It's hard to fully escape the sweet-n-sour cherry at this price point and availability, but it doesn't lead with that. A moody, not bright, feel. So much better than what you usually get to choose from at this price.
