Beaulieu Vineyard
Private Reserve Georges de Latour Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

This was back when André Tchelistcheff was making wine for BV. In fact, it’s because of Tchelistcheff that the Georges de Latour Vineyard was bottled separately in the first place. Decanted prior to service; enjoyed over the course of several hours. This bottle of the 1970 pours a garnet color with significant rim variation; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears and signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with a mix of tart, ripe and dried mostly red fruits: red currants, lingonberries, Bing cherry, tobacco, Poblano pepper, old leather, dry gravelly earth, and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. After enjoying the 1981 vintage a couple weeks ago, this is stunning leap in quality. The 1970 is evergreen and stole my heart. Drink now through 2040.

Oct 9th, 2022It’s my lucky day. This fell out of the sky. It has long been one of my inspirations. I tasted this soon after arriving in the Napa Valley and it has informed my stylistic thinking for over 40 years. Definitely well along in life but still has much to say. Flowers and leather. Forest floor earthiness.

Soft red fruit (raspberry, sweet cherry) a dusty leather start. Lovely aged fruit with lots of leaner stuff. This is really good fun

Have enjoyed this legendary wine many times over the last 35 years, and it still shows its great pedigree, with finely balanced and nuanced red fruit and earthy and cedar undertones.

Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife! Really a gorgeous bottle. Brick red. Muted nose of faded cassis. There is still a cassis core, though it's all about the tertiaries. Mushroom, leather, sage. Perfect acidity alive for a great balance.

We tasted this blind in a mixed lineup, nobody guessed domestic, let alone Cabernet Sauvignon! Very oxidative and rustic, like a Repasso Amarone. Very cool to taste, but I wouldn't want a whole bottle.
