Opened about two hours prior to service; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 1985 pours a deep garnet color with an orange rim and a slightly hazy, near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of dried, desiccated blackberries, pipe tobacco, leather, organic earth and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. A lovely, mature wine that should be enjoyed over the next several years. Drink now through 2030.

Nice poise and balance. Plum, cherry and strawberry. Fresh but balanced. Pretty.

If new Napa cab tasted like this, I'd actually drink it. 1985 vintage, currant and tobacco, mature but a lotta life left, even on night 2.

Has held up nicely. Nice acidity and still showing some fruit. More red than black fruit, warm fermented red and black cherries with some pomegranate essence. A great floral bouquet, dried white roses and a light honey note. Turned moist topsoil and forest earthiness. Soft tannins with a lengthy, leathery, cedar oriented, acidic finish. The tertiary notes are slightly outweighing the fruit. This was probably better 5-10 years ago. It still has some life but is on the decline.

1985 reserve. Still drinking quite well. Very nice cab. Not as fruit forward as modern cabs but has great backbone and subtle finish. Black cherry smooth great mouth feel. A well made wine which will continue to age.
