A little muted on the nose and weak on the palate, this isn’t the best iteration of this workhorse Reserva from Muga, of which there are some one million bottles. The oak is fairly poorly integrated at the moment. It does have a pleasing core of red fruit with some spice and good balance, but ultimately it fails to impress.

Spanish wines have got to be the best in terms of bang for your buck.

Very easy drinking, smooth, a lot going on with this...

Outstanding freshness in this vintage. Nice bit of meaty earth too with plenty of red fruit and berries plus a soft dose of new wood. Great right out the bottle, after 24 hours, and even after 48. Impressive.

Deep ruby; medium plus intensity aromas of plum, blackberry, pomegranate, currant, earth, mushroom, vanilla, spices, cedar; dry, medium plus acid, high chalky tannins, high alcohol, medium plus body, medium plus intensity flavors consistent with aromas; long finish, very concentrated and complex, well balanced, very good

Candied lilacs - a lovely nose

Medium bodied that has a wonderful amount of Eucalyptus, chamomile, mint, black tea tannins, citrus, and enough oak to keep the wine at attention.
This is an easy go to producer for a quality wine.

Firstly, the conditions weren’t great for this wine. It was drunk without decanting at cellar temperature, so in many respects was unable to show at its best. I do believe this is a little closed down for now; there seems to be much more lurking beneath the surface that should be revealed with another 5 years or so. That being said, it missed the mark somewhat for me on this occasion and certainly didn’t match the 2014 I had a few weeks ago. I’ll sit on the remaining bottles I have.

Textbook Rioja. Very approachable with a inky purple color; black cherry, dried leaves, cedar on the nose. Some blackberry and sour cherry on the fore pallet followed by wet gravel and woodsmoke. Bold and dry for sure with medium plus acidity and alcohol. Tannings are edgy and the finish is adequate. Again a classic Rioja wine.

Massive spice and smoked earth, vanilla, black raspberry, chocolate granache. Cedar and clove. Tannins are subdued while acidity is still medium plus. Long, boozy finish.
