Bonny Doon Vineyard
Cuvée R Rancho Solo Grenache
Last bottle, notes pending...
See prior notes, we're pretty close, could go another 4-6Y IMO.
72H Update:
Nose has dried raspberries, dried lavender, bag of fresh black cherries, blackberry jam, crushed fresh rosemary and shaved dark chocolate. Palate has plum jam, ripe blackberries, cocoa powder, dried leather, rock dust and fine tannins. A great finale to this vintage from Randall Grahm, our last bottle.

100% Grenache from sunny and beautiful Monterey, CA.
Nose has an earthy, grilled cherry/blackberry, rosemary and lavender.
Palate has a beautiful dark fruit compote, leather, mineral dust and fading oak/vanilla influence.
A much better bottle with an addition year of resting, since our prior experience. Tannins have mellowed, but the finish persists. 2022+ on future bottles.
24hr Update: Stunning flavors of ripe plum, cherry and light baking spice. This garners an extra point (92->93) today!

On the lawn for Tanglewood this evening, Film Night with Andris Nelsons & John Williams, mostly playing scores from JW scored films, Dracula, E.T., Indiana Jones, Close Encounters, Harry Potter and of course Star Wars!
Slight oak, but total Grenache profile in your palate, nice but was a little chilly.

Cherry, raspberry, cranberry, rhubarb, mossy earth, licorice and hints of vanilla. Good structure and soft tannins.

Apr 6th, 2017This wine is medium-dark in the glass and has those great savory nose notes that Randall Grahm seems to pack into every bottle of wine he makes. Leather, black olives and smoke are the first to escape. The palate stays on Savory Street with a big olive play on the dark fruit. Acidity is positively mouth-watering and the tannic structure is quite firm. Pair it with pork or fowl easily. I had mine with an honest-to-god Pennsylvania nut roll and almost hallucinated. It was that good.

Nov 11th, 2016At 14.5% abv, it’s hefty, but it balances its weight very well against the aromas, flavors and mouthfeel. The Monterey County fruit comes from the Rancho Solo vineyard planted years ago, as Randall Grahm explains.
The wine shows a medium ruby color, has a beautiful, yet feisty nose of cherry, allspice and dark berries with a palate displaying dark fruit and earthy spice and minerals. Good tannic structure meets a refreshing acidity and the whole sip finishes long with black cherry notes persisting.
