This wine is a hug from someone in a leather jacket: soft and comforting but with just a whiff of that funky smell and structure. The berries are bright and ever so slightly cooked, like a nice berry coulis. Then there is earth and some dried branches and silky tannins. On first sip I wasn’t into this but given a minute to open up it has something to say without being a loudmouth. Totally friendly supertuscan. Pairs well with a book.

A stylish Super Tuscan that is as modern as its label, Brancaia's 2014 Tre is a blend of 80% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from all three of the winery's estate vineyards. It's softly textured on the nose and palate, a basket of freshly harvested, sun-warmed Italian plums and black cherries infused with thyme blossoms.
