Better on the second day once it opens up. Bing cherry, beets, black pepper and forest floor. Good value. Cool that they list the vineyards on the back.

A delicious nine vineyard blend from California's Central Coast. Hand harvested and fermented by ambient yeasts in open top fermenters and then aged without racking in French oak, 10% new. A richly scented but elegant Pinot Noir with a creamy texture for its duration on its lees and tart cherry and red currants with a pomegranate fruit tannin that is polished but complex and nuanced with a wisp of clove, camphor, and a trigeminal response almost menthol but more like a piney and resinous juniper berry. Would think because of its ratio between higher alcohol to fruit that this doesn't have forever but I would like to see this in a couple of years when the components fall into more balance. All the same, it is a delicious glass of wine and far more expressive than many at this tier.

If only all entry level Pinots would taste like this. Calera is among my top 3 Pinot producers in the US!

Pinot noir grapes from 9 different plots in the central coast, mostly from the Laetitia Wineyard in San Luis Obispo. I enjoy the description of the wine-making procedure on the back label. Nose is fresh with underripe crushed strawberries, red cherries, and a delicate minerality, but it lacks oak flavors and tertiary aromas except a hint of seared mushrooms; the structure is ok, medium acids and tannins and (for my taste) slightly high on the alcohol but youthful, fresh, rich and food friendly - on this eve it paired well with burgundian and swiss cheeses and ham from a woolly Hungarian pig living in Spain! Dave Brubeck provided the beat with the Take five album.

A nice wine for the price , but expected a little more depth. From my experience most Pinots really start to shine after 5ish years in bottle. With a tad more time I'd expect this to get better.

Vegetative at first, but then rounded out with a full, earthy flavor. Liked it a lot.
