A very open and inviting Annata. Nose is pure ripe cherry, with a little sneaky beam of vanilla, tingly crushed rock dust, and a savory iodine-adjacent note. Full, soft, and relatively lively in the mouth. Nice flavor concentration of macerated ripe cherry and crushed rock, with a lengthy finish that gets savory as it clings. Not super complex or age-worthy but just joyful right now.

Principessa Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa only releases Chiantis fit for a queen, typified by elegance and astounding longevity (her famed 1971 vintage is still going strong). Her historic winery holds to the highest standards, using only 100% Sangiovese and holding back “current” releases to ensure appropriate bottle aging for added complexity and refinement.

The resulting wine is the best kind of classic Chianti, with the classic aromas of sour cherry, fine leather, sandalwood, and cedar, fresh acidity, attractive fine tannins, and a long, complex palate impression. This style of Chianti Classico is a very useful wine at table, medium-weight, savory, based on fresh acidity rather than tannins. Best paired with Italian food.
