Oak is a little more noticeable on the nose than I would like it to be, but this is California Sangiovese, not Italian. It's bombastic where the Italian version is understated. It's noisy where the other is quiet, ripe instead of restrained. The palate is showy and brassy, with a nice tannic structure that is useful, not abrasive. Big black cherry flavors and minerality show noticeably, with a bit of allspice poking through.

Lovely deep medium bodied wine color with a plethora of legs on the swirl. Oaky red fruit on the nose. Hints of cherry on the fore palate with a spicy bone sucking dry oak finish.

A big fruity fun wine to enjoy with food or by itself. Great nose of dark fruit and spice. Very fruit forward with great tastes of blueberries, pie crust, cocoa, and pepper. Tannins are subtle and acidity is just right. Nice long finish. Another very nice wine from the Castle.
