Cayuse Vineyards
God Only Knows Armada Vineyard Grenache
A few wines from last week’s 4th Friday event!
One of the best Cayuse Grenache I’ve ever had. So much lift and perfumed soy, iron, smoked brisket, spicy red fruits on the nose. Classic whole cluster. I assumed it had to be near 100% (and it is). Rich yet nimble on the palate, carrying currant, black tea, black cherries, crunchy cranberries and green stem. Wonderful acidity here. This is in the zone right now. Killer bottle from @Keith Fisher .

Chateauneuf-de-Pape made by strawberry elves living in mushroom houses. Magical stuff, seek it out, decant a good while. Floats over the palate, looooonnnnng finish. Suspect it will age beautifully.

1 person found it helpfulJun 15th, 2019I haven’t tried this 2017 WWB wine of the year for more than a year. Needless to say, I was completely blown away with this stunner. The 2014 'God Only Knows' is an utterly fascinating wine from the amazing team of Christophe Baron and Elizabeth Bourcier of Cayuse Vineyards. This stunning Grenache was sourced from the Armada Vineyard and instantly impresses as it opens to intoxicating aromatics of red fruits, meat, tangerine rind, black forest cake, black truffle oil, and Earl Grey tea. This walks a tight rope between power and elegance, showcasing blackberry cobbler, and black plums with red raspberry preserves, red cherries and pomegranate seed. Beautifully balanced and structured this continues to impress with its gorgeous texture and poise. Flavors of blood orange, umami and black olive tapenade continue to add complexity and impressive range as they build on the finish. The combination of purity and precision are a thing of beauty. Overall, this is a complete success, and one of most impressive wines ever from Walla Walla. Outstanding now and also possesses lovely aging potential. Drink 2019- 2029-100

1 person found it helpfulApr 14th, 2019Coppery gold shimmer to a medium bloody amber. Stinky warmed cured meats that were left out too long. Spiced cranberry Xmas cocktail, red raspberry puree, woody earthy cedar, with hints of tobacco and spicy fragrance/cologne. Somehow reminds me of a carnival with spicy sugary roasted nuts, cotton candy, and meats and cheeses- with some slightly stale meaty pizza. Leather and old rope. Spicy bloody raw meatiness on the palate. Great firm acidity, and zero alcohol noticed. Very well balanced and smooth with a great mineral backbone. So savory with all the meat and spice, but still has great fruitiness.

Jun 11th, 2020My favorite nose of the seminar. Umami, macerated strawberries, spice. There is a pencil shaving after taste that is fittingly pleasant. Slight astringency.
