Second young Bordeaux of the week. Disappointing. Several critics rated this highly - I don’t see it. No character, no terroir evident. Even though it’s young, you’d expect to detect notes of pencil lead, tar, violet, or something, especially given the high quality of the vintage. I don’t see it. 2016 vintage on April 18, 2020

Vertical Tastings of 2015 and 2016 Vintages of Château Capbern from St-Estèphe. 2016 was not as approachable as was the 15 as it had more minerality, acid, and strong tannins. Left bank showed well during 2016, but like the similair 2010 vintage, this bottle could certainly use more aging in the cellar. Similar notes of earth, cassis, pencil shavings/lead, dark cherries, and tobacco.

Deep, brooding Bordeaux, surprisingly good at a low price. There are some rough edges to be sure, but it’s a good value wine.

Pretty good, but a hint of something I don't like but can't identify because I'm not good at that. A little bit of red pepper.

Interesting wine. Someone said bell pepper and I absolutely agree. It's a very vegetable-like flavor. Definitely not bad, but maybe not my particular favorite taste.
