2000 | Red Blend
(65% Cabernet Sauvignon / 28% Merlot / 7% Petit Verdot)
Château Lagrange
Grand Cru Classé (3ème), Left Bank
Bordeaux; Médoc, St-Julien, France
(93-94; Drink 2030-40)
Ripe black currant, damp leather, pencil lead, raspberry-fig bar; Dried black cherry, chocolate espresso cake, faint vanilla. Decanted 10H.
Paired with long braised (local, Columbia Co. NY ❤️) lamb shanks, charred carrots w/ maple glaze and garden mashed potatoes. A great 2023 Easter dinner, BDX is the best pairing for lamb, of many preparation styles.
(We're finding that the cats also enjoy a savory lamb dish. 😉)

This was old world on the nose but cleaner (no Brett) with a very slight va that blew off quickly. Rich and mouth coating with a long finish. This was my WOTN

Mar 11th, 2018Nice classic-ish Bordeaux. Decanted for 1.5h. Overall just missing an extra level - either slightly restrained still, or perhaps past its prime. Lots of classic pepper and earth and subtle red fruit on the nose. Tannins are relatively integrated but perhaps very slightly “chunky”. Acid is there on the finish, which is decently long. Nice with grilled lamb kebabs. Overall solid but definitely underperformed expectations especially for an SJ (favorite left bank appellation).

Jan 2nd, 2015Dark rubi robe, no signs of age, nose of blackcurrant, anise and flowers, a hint of dark berries. Very elegant in the mouth with good density and complexity, and is a great claret for the year. We liked it a lot. Good now but no rush.
