Château Lanessan
Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend

Good value find with a little age.

Oct 22nd, 2013Just a little past its peak but still drinkable. Still getting fruit on the nose and some tannins on finish.

Decanted for about 2 hours and it was just 'not there'. Expectations were not met. Seemed very thin for a Bordeaux.

Jan 17th, 2016Saved this for 8 years! Not a disappointment; I'm just surprised that this 14 year old wine has such heavy tannins. Vanilla, currants, berries. Wonderful. Worth the wait.

Was interesting comparing this with the 2004 Meyney as part of Friday steak night. At first this showed loads of bitterness and dominant, unpleasant metallic notes. Over 3 hours the metallic notes faded and this revealed some red fruit and peppery notes, but the bitterness never quite got to a place I liked. I'm curious to see what Lanessan is like at 5 or 10 years--seemed faded at 15 years.
