Mighty fine! Not a great year but this is aging beautifully.

Apr 16th, 2014Narrow dark red fruit with great vibrancy. Perfectly balanced and great depth. Couldn’t stop drinking it so must be good!

Apr 25th, 20182002 vintage Jan 3, 2018 ($25 in 2017). Medium-bodied and supple but plenty of weight for a simple, yet memorable, work-week dinner of steak, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower mash. One of the best wine values on the planet. 8.9 relative to all wines but >9.5 for value and enjoyment.

Jan 4th, 2018Dried blackberries, prunes, cassis, slight bell pepper, leather, clay. Light rounded acid, juicy texture, medium bodied, smooth velvet tannins, short smoky, slightly bitter finish. Weeknight pizza wine, best not to expect complexity associated with its age.

Feb 18th, 2017An accompaniment to Stormpocalypse 2016. Starts super tight. Needs time. Notes later. Day 2: Black tea, black fruit, livens to a quite nice, typical Haut-Médoc. It's balanced in some respects, sure. The acid is clear. But after 14 years, I want more. The sourness, the bricky brown is barely there, and the secondary characteristics - whatever they should be - don't seem to have come forward.
