Château Le Gay
Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend
It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!
Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.
Great nose with red and black fruits, cedar, vanilla, leather, earth, chocolates, tobacco, spices, black pepper and black tea.
Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, currants, vanilla, cola, cedar, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices and earth.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.
This is a delicious 20 year old Merlot from Bordeaux. Nicely balanced with a nice, soft mouthfeel. Rich and elegant with nice complexity.
Easy drinking and needs an hour of airtime to open up properly.
The 2004 was not a good vintage, but it is showing really well now.
Robert Parker 93 points.
Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with foods like game meats.
A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
$220.

Classic Bordeaux. PnP. Pencil shavings and earth. Full of flavor and nice texture. Very similar to previous notes. My last bottle.

Sep 17th, 20221hr+ decant. Maroon, red color. Lovely nose of cedar, earth, and leather. Classic Pomeral but started to thin and fade out. Declining so drink up.

Apr 2nd, 20221hr+ decant. I could smell the empty bottle all day long as it was so floral and lovely. Surprisingly it didn’t show at all on the nose or palate. Very similar to previous notes. Wine is getting tired and shows it age with rust like colors and a medium minus finish. Depth has faded too.

Sep 27th, 20211hr+ decant and got better with air and time. Medium red color with rust edges. Nose is dominated by cherries. More Napa than Bordeaux. Lovely texture and low OH. Medium finish. Similar to my last note/bottle.

May 15th, 2021Dark red color. Decanted for 45+ minutes. Fruit forward on the nose and palate. Much more Napa than Bordeaux minus the oak. Big cherry flavor with even some apple and honey. Bold wine! I would say at or just ever so passed prime drinking window. Merry Christmas!!

Dec 26th, 2019It’s bottles like this that make me only want to drink French Bordeaux’s!! Absolutely Fabulous! Medium purple color. Classic French nose! Tar, smoke, and dark fruit on the palate. Refined and balanced, with low OH. Finish was a bit short. Drinking perfectly right now so wouldn’t wait much longer.

Nov 25th, 2018Celebrating my new job and our family's eventual move to London!!
30+ minute decant. A nose that transports you back in time to France or my grandmothers basement :). It's filled with cinnamon, cherries, cedar, and roses. Weaker than prior bottles with flavors of apple core, vegetables, and earth. Lovely texture! Shorter finish than normal. Might be close to over the hill or just an off bottle, but still a top quartile wine!
