Réservé Pignan Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache

The color of the 2000 Pignan is a brilliant pale ruby color and slightly cloudy. Noticeably lighter in complexion than the others in the CdP flight. Yep…it has that scintillating, heady nose that is so unique to Rayas. Pine needles, wild strawberries, cardamom…woof. This bottle had some VA but I didn’t mind. Perhaps not the most exciting Rayas but I’m splitting hairs here. A very nice pairing with cassoulet, Toulouse sausage and duck confit. Drink now and through 2035. Merci Matt!

Classic Rayas elegance while still showing good intensity. Evolved so much over the course of dinner. Black cherry cola, cherry liquor, exotic spices and hints of smoke. Finishes long and seductive showing really impressive depth. 86d.

Drinking really well, with beautiful fruit, spices, floral and tertiary in happy balance..

A little bretty and less aromatic than normal, but elegant pignan nonetheless

Blinded as a 1999 “wine made by rayas”. One of the only producers that I️ could call in a blind tasting I️ think.
