Château Sociando-Mallet
Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend
Dark ruby in colour - quite youthful looking for its age. Aromas of cedar and berry. Medium bodied. Quite cool flavours for a hot vintage from this Crus Bourgeois from the left bank. I would normally prefer an Aussie Cabernet to have with a steak and still do but this was acceptable if not a bit simple. Drinks to its price point.

Feb 1st, 2019Fresh raspberry, plasticine, rounded pluminess with a light blood-like note. No signs of excessive heat. A little under in the mid palate, but very approachable and quite primary.

Oct 1st, 2018This ‘03 is drinking great! Rich red currant and cherry fruit, beautiful underlying graphite, well-integrated chalky tannins and great balance.

Jul 8th, 2018If there’s a better/more value driven wine coming out of this part of Bordeaux, I’d love to hear it, because I always love this stuff. From a halfie and still incredibly youthful. Roasted plum, currant, saddle leather & herbal spice. No problem holding, even in this format!

Sep 5th, 2015Friggin' d luscious. Tasted blind and thought it was Napa. 2003 Bordeaux makes sense based on the ripeness levels.

May 30th, 202045+ minute decant, but needs more like 2 hours for some of the harshness to dissipate. Mild nose with more fruit than the terroir I was expecting. Wine lacks depth and character. That being said it goes down like velvet and has a medium plus finish. The early harshness is a turn off and I think my expectations were too high. Not bad, but probably won’t try again.

#dfwe2018
