St. Émilion, Libournais, Bordeaux, France
Blend of 90% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, aged for 16 months in 60% new French oak. Deep Ruby, purple edges, with aromas of black berry fruits, cedar and meaty smoky notes. On the palate flavors of baked plums and black currants with cacao and tobacco spice, on a well balanced frame. Fine dry tannins, long finish ending with fruit, earthy spice and cedar character. Nice!

The 2017 Clos Fourtet is vivid, rich and super-expressive. Beams of salinity give the 2017 its energy and shape. In the glass, the 2017 is wonderfully vivid and nuanced. Lavender, mint, blue fruits and blood orange all build into the beautifully layered, exquisite finish. In 2017, Clos Fourtet is all class. This is a terrific showing from the Cuvelier family. On the palate, rich, full bodied, cherry, dark berry, leather, chocolate, minerals/salinity, citrus peel, hints of grapefruit or blood orange. Long finish. The citrus peel lingers. Like forever. Layered and complex. $110 at B-21.
