Sep 20th, 2017Barbera is an everyday drinking wine for the Piedmontese who produce Barolo and Barberesco for export not their own consumption... but I'm excited for this grape/wine's development in the US and specifically California. It's in the realm of Grenache and Pinot noir, but unlike the previous two it's from Italy. There's a pepper note to most Barbera I drink via work and this is included. This isn't out of the ordinary, but that's a good thing for an easy glug wine. Plums, dark cherry, no prunes mod minus tannin, revelation of acid though like Pinot. I'd bet money that Barbera at its peak could be better than a lot of premier cru burgundys. Find some Barbera, stash it, drink it on a Tuesday.
